YARDS & LAWNS
According to EPA, yard waste materials usually make up about 20% of the total solid waste that goes to landfills.  Seasonally this number can be as high as 80%.  To reduce the amount of solid waste many people use composting.
Things we can compost: grass/lawn clippings, hay, kitchen wastes, leaves, manure, straw,  weeds, wood chips and sawdust.
If you have tools and time, you can make a composter yourself or you can buy a manufactured oneMore info >>

WATER QUALITY
What we do in and around our home affects groundwater and consequently our drinking water supply.  We need to be careful with storing and disposing of potentially hazardous products.  We also need to know major characteristics of our soil, depth of bedrock and water table.  More info >>
